With three professional games under his belt at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, DJ has done nothing but impress. In their first game DJ scored 14 in lead the Bobcats to a dominate 81-66 over the Clippers. Post game comments
DJ’s success carried over to the court the next day as he dropped 15 points despite being the focal point of the Hornet’s defensive game plan in a two point loss. Every time DJ had the ball in his hands the Hornets looked to trap, bringing the double team early to force the ball out of his hands.
“I just had to adjust,” said Augustin. “That’s what teams are going to do – throw different defenses at me. I think we did a good job trying to adjust, but they just played harder at the end.” post game comments”
In the Bobcats third game DJ was virtually unstoppable, scoring 30 points and pulling 6 rebounds in a 99-93 loss to the Warriors. DJ was 9-14 from the field, including 2-3 from downtown, and went 10-11 from the line. DJ was aggressive getting to the hoop and the Warriors had little answer defensively. Despite his personal success, DJ was subdued after the game, and visibly disappointed in the team’s loss.
“It was a tough game, both teams played hard and both teams wanted to win,” he said softly. “It came down to whoever played harder and was more physical.”
After the game against the Warriors the Bobcats decided to rest DJ for the rest of Summer League due to tendinitis in his knee. DJ knocked it in the first game and fell on it in the third game, and was held out for precautionary reasons.
