Augustin, Henderson lead Bobcats past Bucks 94-87

D.J. Augustin scored 15 points, rookie Gerald Henderson was nearly perfect from the field and Charlotte beat the Milwaukee Bucks 94-87 on Tuesday night in Tyson Chandler’s preseason debut with the Bobcats.

Charlotte (2-5) snapped a four-game losing streak despite getting little from Chandler, who had four points and two rebounds in 16 minutes in his first game following offseason ankle surgery.

Henderson, the 12th pick in the draft, added 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Boris Diaw had 10 points in 30 minutes in his longest stint since returning from a sprained ankle.

Rookie Brandon Jennings shook off a slow start to finish with 14 points and eight assists in his second straight start for the Bucks (3-4), while Andrew Bogut had…

Bobcats pick up Augustin's 3rd-year option

The Charlotte Bobcats are exercising the third-year option in guard D.J. Augustin’s contract for the 2010-11 season.

The team has until the end of the month to decide whether to do the same with center Alexis Ajinca.

Augustin, the ninth pick in the 2008 draft, averaged 11.8 points and 3.5 assists last season. He led NBA rookies by shooting 89 percent from the foul line.

Augustin will make $2.1 million next season. Charlotte also has an option for a fourth season.

Bobcats coach Larry Brown was pleased to learn of the team’s decision.

“It’s a no-brainer,” Brown said before Tuesday night’s preseason game in Cleveland. “He had a great year. He’s a great kid and he’s only going to get better.”

“Hold that pose for three minutes,’‘ Augustin says. “It’s no joke. Sometimes your legs are just shaking.”

Yes, Augustin took up yoga as a means to avoid a recurrence of the abdominal strain that derailed his rookie season. Twisting himself Gumby-like had the desired effect; he says his core muscles are healthy again and stronger than ever.

That was easy to tell from Thursday’s Charlotte Bobcats practice. He has regained his explosion and change-of-direction. He made two spectacular passes during a 20-minute scrimmage – a one-handed bullet into the lane for a Nazr Mohammed…
